Ever heard of a Short Story launching a Crowdfunding Campaign?

Well, it's Breaking Noos!

Hello potential backer, you have two simple decisions to make:
  1. Whether you like the following synopsis enough to read the short story housing it (which is available in the following formats - EPUB, PDF, and Webpage)
  2. Whether you like the short story enough to back its expansion into a novella via the crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.

Synopsis of "Mela"
The unnamed female protagonist of Mela is a pre-teen. Living in an affluent neighborhood in contemporary India (circa 2015), she is beginning to grapple with the complexities of following her urges while being conditioned and restrained by her status conscious parents. She can be seen hacking away with abandon at the rather flimsy veneer of upper class urban life with her unfiltered takes on social niceties, the pretensions of adults, and the appearances which all segments of society are expected to enact to enable the apparently smooth functioning of the societal engine. A suspiciously dark humor lurks in the dimly lit corners of the world Mela tries to shine a light upon.
Looking forward to your support: please consider spreading the word about this campaign in your network, whether or not you choose to back it.

I’m a creative writer based in Hyderabad, India. pedni.com is home to my fiction, poetry, and thoughts. Read this post to understand why I set up this website.

I write in a range of genres and formats. Here’s some flash fiction written in 2014:
Recently reunited, the orphan wanted to visit his natural parents’ childhood homes. He was shocked to be taken to his orphanage.

If you’re interested in a longer read, check my novella, Another Attempt, published on this website and freely available under the liberal CC-BY-NC license.

And here’s another story-in-a-tweet:
A broker convinced a beggar to work. After paying rent and broker’s commission, he had to borrow for food. He returned to begging.

This fictionalized account of the travails of MBBS aspirants is meant to highlight the ground realities and draw attention to some of the debilitating shortcomings in the healthcare system in India and the dilemmas facing aspirants and their families. This story is but a snapshot in time, capturing the image resulting from holding up a mirror to the education establishment and private hospitals in India.
